They are a type of dental prosthetic that does just what their name suggests — they “bridge” the gap created by a missing tooth. With the use of caps, called crowns, over the healthy teeth on either side of the gap. An artificial tooth is attached between the two crowns to fill in the space left by the missing tooth.

A lot of different types of bridges are available, including traditional, cantilever, and Maryland bonded. Dr. Brent Moore has experience in all types of prosthetic teeth and will provide the specialized bridge that best fits your dental needs.

What is the Process Like?

This is a procedure that can be completed in at least two office visits, but typically requires a few more.

1st visit:

During your first visit, the abutment teeth (healthy teeth on either side of the gap) are prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crowns. At this time, our dentist will also make impressions of the area. These impressions will be sent to the laboratory where your customized dental bridge and crowns will be made. It generally takes 2 to 3 weeks to receive the bridge back from the laboratory. In the meantime, our dentist will make a temporary bridge to protect the exposed teeth and gums.

2nd visit:

Once we receive your bridge from the laboratory, your temporary bridge will be removed and the permanent bridge will be assessed and adjusted as needed. Proper placement of the bridge is vital and may require several follow-up office visits. To ensure maximum comfort and a healthy bite, our dentist can use temporary cement to apply your bridge while you “try out” different fits. Once you are satisfied with the placement, our dentist can permanently secure the dental bridge.

Your bridge can last up to 15 years if cared for properly. Maintain healthy brushing and flossing habits after your dental bridges have been received.
